You are two today (well technically yesterday). My mind is blown that just two short years ago you came rushing into this world ready to take it all on. And take it on you do. You have energy, vibrancy, and a determination that I wouldn’t have believed possible of such a tiny little person. I admire you.
This past year has been a whirlwind. You walk and you talk but those words can’t fully encompass the brilliance of your speech or the speed and strength with witch you move. So often these days I look in your focused eyes and it would seem I can glimpse the cogs pressing against each other, moving each other forward to make a connection in your mind. It’s one of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring things I have ever seen. Watching you grown and learn helps me to worship God as creator with a whole new understanding.
You laugh. You have such a great sense of humor. You love to tickle and be tickled and chased and found when you’re hiding. You sing silly songs and dance all around and you can’t stand for people not to participate with you. I can’t tell you how many times a day you grab my hand and take off full speed with the words, “Come on mommy.” You play pretend and I see myself reflected in your imaginary world. You cook your food, mow your lawn, push your stroller, and read your Bible. I pray desperately that you would not just see and copy my actions but that you would know and see the heart behind them. Know that I bless your food before meals because I’m so thankful for the creator who made it, I sing songs because I love the composer, I read the Bible because I love the author.
We struggle. The world challenges you and you challenge right back. You can get frustrated right now because you any do all that you want to do. It’s not easy and I’m not going to try to make you believe it is; I’m just going to ask you to trust the guidance of Daddy and me. We want what’s best for you and while we most certainly won’t always get that right we will do our best. Your strong will can usurp my authority sometimes and that generally doesn’t go we’ll for us, buy I want you to know that I honor your strength and the person that its helping both of us become. Even when we clash in a pretty epic battle of the wills know that I love you more than life itself and I’m learning each and every day where to stand in firm boundaries and where to step aside and give you room to grow. We’ll probably get this figured out in another thirty years or so.
So many things I want to remember about this wonderful age. The fact that you now so fast that sometimes I wonder if your little tippy toes even touch the ground. The way you ask everybody if they are okay when they cough. The fact that you utter the words, “by me self” twenty times a day. That you live the Happy Birthday song and you know all about those Monkeys jumping on the bed. The fact that you learned to count to three so that you could go, “Un, Two, Tree, Go!!!!!” The fact that you want all your people in the same room. Even if its the bathroom. That you are still a daddy’s girl through and through. That you love your little sister so much that you just wanna squeeze her tight (sometimes a little too tight ;)). The way you say, “Mommy, No ma’am,” on such a staccato and authoritative tone that I can’t help but listen.
I could go on and on, but those little things are the reason I write in the first place.
Daddy and I love you to the moon and back. We pray constantly for you and we look forward to another year of watching our Lilybug blossom!
Love you baby girl,
